Coach Vianca Jager



Vianca Jager discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at an after school program her freshman year of high school. Instantly captivated, Vianca made Jiu jitsu part of her life. Vianca’s formal training began at Ground Control under the tutelage of Sean Alvarez and Rob Gutierrez. It did not take long for her instructors to realize Vianca was a natural. In 2005, Vianca chose to continue her instruction with Professor Rob Gutierrez when he began to teach in Queens,NY. An accomplished competitor, Vianca began competing in local and national level gi and no gi tournaments and has quite an extensive collection of medals and trophies that prove her success. Vianca is recognized by her peers and in the Jiu jitsu community as a successful, respectful and tenacious competitor. Outside of training Vianca currently attends Westchester community College where she studies early childhood development. She intends to complete her degree and go on to graduate school. The art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not just a hobby for vianca but is a way of life. A life of dedication, fulfillment and self-worth. She is a valued member of our ECU Queens family. Vianca’s goals are to complete her academic studies, achieve the rank of Black belt and continue living the life-style of a champion.

Coach Jillian DeCoursey

Jillian DeCoursey started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2008. Before discovering Jiu Jitsu, Jillian was a accomplished athlete. She excelled in sports such as Basketball and Volleyball. In her junior and senior years of high school Jillian lead as Captain of her basketball and Volleyball teams twice being voted MVP for each sport. Jillian went on to play Basketball at the University of Bridgeport. The University granted Jillian a 50/50 scholarship for both athletics and academics. After two years she transferred to Hunter College and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology. Jillian went on to study Mental Health Counseling at Iona College and graduated with a Masters Degree. She is currently working as a Therapist at Bellevue Hospital on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.

Jillian began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Rob Gutierrez. Jiu Jitsu has become more than just another sport to conquer. For Jillian, it has become a way of life. It is her hard working no quit attitude that makes her a true asset and valued member of ECU Queens. Jillian enjoys competition and is always up for a new challenge. Her greatest accomplishment in her numerous tournament victories is a Silver Medal at the Worlds 2011 in California.
